#4771 2.9x6.5 An English needlepoint rug, hand worked in wool by Liberty's of London, last quarter 19thC, a copy of an earlier Shirvan rug including the date 1213 woven into it, the date translates to 1798 in our calendar, 18thC Shirvan rugs are rare, and of course no cameras existed, the colors have been updated to English tastes of the time, the same Jazzy colors you see in Crazy Quilts in the late 19thC, but if the weaver has faithfully copied the design of the earlier rug, then this gives us a documentation of designs from the 18thC and becomes a window in time, larger photos $1800.00
#1129 2.9x3.9 Looks like an antique Shirvan, but this is a new rug hand knotted in Egypt, they have gone to great extremes to make this "reproduction", pile is shaved, ends overcast, small interlaced salvages, the back is flamed and distressed to give the feel of an old rug, ivory field, rust border, yellow, light green, brick, and navy accent colors, larger photo $695.00
